Please Note: Students do not need to apply for these awards. The recipients are chosen each year by the faculty of the Department of Geography, Environment, and Sustainability.
The late Ms. Lucy B. Anthony of Moylan, Pennsylvania, established this fund to keep alive the name of Dr. Anna Howard Shaw. The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student in a field of social science (alternates between ATY, GEO, HIS, Social Work, SOC, PSC).
The John Hidore Award is given to an undergraduate student that shows exemplary service to the department and discipline.
The Mina Weil Memorial Scholarship was established in 1933 by Mrs. Weil’s daughter, the late Miss Gertrude Weil with an Initial endowment of $3,000. There is a letter dated December 12, 1946, from Mr. W.C. Jackson to Miss Weil stating that the income from this fund will be awarded annually to a member of the junior or senior class who is majoring in a social science. (alternates between ATY, GEO, HIS, Social Work, SOC, PSC).
The Outstanding Geography Major award is given to an undergraduate student for their outstanding academic achievement and meritorious service to the discipline of Geography.

Awarded annually to a graduating seniors, pursuing admission to graduate school within the next year to earn a masters degree in Geography. Selection of the Mason fellowship recipients will be based on merit as demonstrated by academic performance and a commitment to professional development in geography.

Awarded annually to one doctoral student and one master student that has shown excellent teaching qualities.
