M.A. in Applied Geography

Comprehensive Exams

One of the milestones of the M.A. program is the successful completion of a Comprehensive Examination. By the time a student has completed 9 hours of graduate work at UNCG they need to have selected a committee chair/advisor and two additional faculty members to help guide them through the completion of their study. After the first semester the committee will meet with the student to evaluate their current level of preparation through a series of oral questions that may cover either general knowledge of the discipline or be specific to the student’s stated area of interest. Based on these discussions the committee will determine the most appropriate course selections in order for the student to reach their stated goal, and develop a time frame leading to graduation.
