Firoozeh Karimi–a PhD candidate recently published a paper in Computer, Environment, and Urban Systems, which developed an urban growth modeling for Guilford County with a Machine Learning technique— Support Vector Machine (SVM). Her paper concluded that SVM method can substantially improve the prediction accuracy of urban expansion. Therefore, SVM technique should be an useful tools for planners to predict future urban expansion in Guilford County and somewhere else to mitigating the adverse impacts of urban expansion. The link of the paper can be found here, https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0198971518304332?via%3Dihub. Congratulations to Firoozeh!!!!
