Students bring home honors from SEDAAG meeting

At the annual meeting 2018 Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers (SEDAAG) meeting in Johnson City, TN, November 18-19, UNCG had a very strong showing. Nearly 20 students and faculty attended and many of those presented papers and posters. MA student Tyler Mitchell won the Best Masters Paper award for his paper entitled “Tropical Cyclone Frequency Inferred from Intra-Annual Density Fluctuations in Longleaf Pine: A Case Study from Florida.” Firoozeh Karimi and Nastaran Pourebrahim were finalists for Graduate Student Honors’ competition. The North Carolina Geography Bowl team placed second, and Ph.D. student Shane Canup won the Most Valuable Player award. Many other great talks and posters are also given by our graduate students: Michele Abee, Ridwana Allen, Joyce Clapp, Hyojin Kim, Jesse Lane, Jennifer Reynolds, Jeffy Summers, T’shari White, and undergraduate student, John Shields.  Drs. Sultana and Knapp were selected as co-editors of the Southeastern Geographer, and Dr. Sarah Praskievicz was elected to the SEDAAG Honors Committee. Congratulations to all involved!
