At the November 1st World Geography Bowl competition, hosted by GES, the home team edged out Appalachian State to bring the trophy back to our case. Team captain and overall MVP Shane Canup (Ph.D. Candidate) was joined by teammates Joyce Clapp, Thomas Cohen, Matthew Heavner, Elliot McLaughlin and John Shields in an impressive showing in the competition, in which students are asked general knowledge and discipline-specific geography questions. Other teams competing came from NC Central, UNC Pembroke, and East Carolina University. The highest scoring participants are invited to join the North Carolina team, which will compete at the Southeastern Division of the American Association of Geographers meeting for the regional championship later this month. Congratulations to all involved!
